Bachelor's of Science in Public Health from the University of Arizona (2020) Currently Working towards Master of Education in Secondary Education

Miss Amy Abel

Hello! I am so excited to go on this learning journey with you. Although I am originally from Tennessee, I grew up in Cave Creek and consider myself a desert dweller. I am a former CCUSD student and feel so lucky to teach alongside the educators who inspired me to become a teacher.  I attended the University of Arizona and earned my Bachelor's of Science in Public Health in the spring of 2020. Currently, I am working on my Master of Education in Secondary Education with an emphasis in STEM from GCU. This will be my second full-year of teaching so I will do my best to bring a fresh perspective to the classroom.  I am incredibly excited to make learning math fun and to build relationships with the outstanding STMS students. Go Stingers!

Educational Philosophy

  • My classroom is a safe space and positive learning environment where persistence and effort are rewarded. Middle schoolers are growing individuals who need to be treated with the respect of an adult and the compassion of a child. I do not view students as merely a grade, but instead as developing learners who can all contribute something unique to the class environment. I have no doubt that every single one of my students can learn math. They must actively participate in class, communicate with myself and their classmates, and advocate for their success.

As said best by Quintilian, "The role of the teacher is to arrange victories for the students." At the end of the day, I want my students to feel confident and supported in their math class. My role as the educator is to facilitate student learning and impart skills necessary for students to feel like competent learners. Material needs to be presented in diverse and entertaining ways so that students remain engaged. My goal is for students to grasp the worth of their assignments so that they can answer the 'why' concerning all that we do. Most importantly, I am here for every single student and will tirelessly encourage you to realize your potential.
