Mrs. Kathryn Ellefsen
¡Hola! Bienvenidos a las clases de español de Spanish 3 Honors y Spanish 2. I am excited for the new school year and eagerly await meeting you all. I was raised as an Air Force brat and have lived in Hawai'i and Spain to name a few of our assignments. I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1979. I started teaching in 1983 in Texas after a stint with the oil and gas industry in royalties and later with the geologist as a geological technician. This is my 5th year at Cactus Shadows but my 40th year teaching Spanish at the high school level. I live in Scottsdale with my cat, a tuxedo male called Rasta. I enjoy many different activities including reading, cross stitching, crafting, singing, playing handbells, and traveling. I am a life-long member of the Arizona Language Association (AZLA) as well as a past president. I also belong to ACTFL, the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages. I am proud to call myself a Falcon!
My Educational Philosophy
We are always life-long learners. Traveling to and living in other countries opens the door to so many opportunities. Learning languages is just another key that provides you with a wealth of knowledge first hand. There is an appreciation of the homeland (U.S.A.) and an acceptance of others different than us. Culture colors our learning and we grow.
