Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University with a Minor in Humanities & Cultural Studies

Mrs. Megan Linch

Hello! My name is Mrs. Megan Linch and I am so excited to be part of the Desert Sun Academy 5th-grade team. Most importantly, I am thrilled to be your teacher. It will be a fun year full of learning and new adventures. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us. I want to know all about you, but first I’m going to tell you a few things about myself.

I was born in Oregon, and I lived there till I was 12. My mother was an art teacher, and when I wasn’t in my own classes, I was in hers. I helped teach in her classrooms and I also taught with her during the summer. It was during these formative years that I discovered I wanted to be a teacher.  In 6th grade, my family moved to Arizona. I started middle school in the Cave Creek School District and then later I graduated from Cactus Shadows High School. From there, I started my formal education in teaching at Paradise Valley Community College and Northern Arizona University. In 2011, I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. I also have a minor in humanities and cultural studies. I graduated with honors and as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

After graduating, I started teaching at Desert Sun Academy in fifth grade. I taught fifth grade for 4 years before joining the fourth-grade team. I was in 4th Grade for 3 years, and now I teach both! This is my 11th year teaching at Desert Sun.  I am involved all over the DSA campus. I am the PTO Teacher representative, as well as a member on the school's Site Council. In 2021, I was named the CCUSD Teacher of the Year!

Outside of the school setting, I have been teaching dance, art, math, technology, and other various topics for over 15 years. These well-rounded experiences in teaching have helped me learn to teach the whole child, not just the academic brain.

I am so excited about being your teacher, and I am even more excited that you are in my class. We are going to have a great year!

  • My Educational Philosophy

As a teacher, it is my job to be a role model. To be a positive, confident, and consistent example. It is my job to instill new learning in others, but I believe that I can not do this job, without creating a safe space where students know what is expected of them, and what they can expect. I believe that teaching is about building relationships, student ownership, and the equity of meeting students where they are.

I believe that the purpose of education is to help students build a foundation. It is this foundation that they will use to build their future and the world around them. It is this foundation that will help them become successful members of society. In my classroom, students will become a thriving community that supports and encourages each other.
