STEAM at Lone Mountain

  • Lone Mountain Elementary School is an A+ STEAM School where innovative teaching methods are used throughout the campus to inspire, educate, and engage students in all content areas, but specifically in the application of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics as it relates to serving and changing our local community within our global society. One of the key tenets of STEAM is the concept of the engineering-design process to solve problems. At Lone Mountain, we have adopted the terms to teach the engineering-design process:

Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Improve, Communicate

Not only do Lone Mountain teachers incorporate these concepts into daily instruction across their content area-instruction to teach students to solve problems, but we utilize this process as a school community to continuously improve our learning. Kiwanis of Carefree has generously donated over $70,000 to our STEM program over the past 3 years to:

    • incorporate STEAM into their classroom instruction,
    • bring memorable, hands-on Science demonstrations to our campus through Science on Wheels,
    • send students to experience the Science Center in Phoenix
    • provide Science Extravaganza for our students,
    • develop an entire STEAM lab, equipped with technology

This coming year, we anticipate our partnership to look a bit different due to an increased collective knowledge base among Lone Mountain staff, and imminent changes from COVID-19. We will continue the Science on Wheels events, and pivot with the other services as we include more STEAM activities in the classrooms.
