Greetings Falcon Families! I'm a new teacher at Cactus Shadows High School. I've been teaching for 11 years, with 9 years under the IB Program. In this capacity, I've mostly served gifted students and honors students, mostly in grades 9th, 11th, and 12th. I specialized in Biology, and taught an IB Prep Biology to freshman, DP Biology HL, Year 1, to juniors and DP Biology HL, Year 2, to seniors. Gratefully, the students enjoyed a pass rate above the national average. I've been privileged to hear success stories from many graduates and their families over the years!

Ultimately, the aim is to prepare students for life after high-school, and to get them ready for college, career, or enlisting.  At the high-school level, students will learn to become self-sufficient and independent, and take ownership of their learning. Freshman biology will teach foundation, science skills that will transfer to higher level courses. IB Biology will follow the program guidelines so that students may earn their certificate or diplomma.  In both courses, students will learn concepts and skills through a variety of strategies, and units will try to appeal to various learning styles.

Teaching is a second career for me. I was successful in my past life in Finance, but I wanted to pursue my original passion for teaching.  I returned to school, and earned a Masters in Education in Science Literacy from ASU.  Biology is my passion and I do spend quite a bit of time outdoors, mostly hiking.  I've been married 27 years, and we have two amazing daughters, 22 and 17. Our family loves to travel, and we have visited nearly every state, and we divide our time between national parks, national monuments, state parks, and major cities.

I look forward to getting to know all of you and supporting you as you set your goals and pursue your goals.  Please don't hesitate to reach out with any comments or questions.
