My Educational Philosophy
-
Music is more portable and more omnipresent than ever. This almost constant exposure to music has led to an increase in passive listening. One of my goals as a music educator is to teach my students skills associated with active listening so they can appreciate any type of music at a higher level, if they choose to.
My process of evaluation is not to compare students to each other, but rather to evaluate a student's progress from the beginning of the term to the end. When my students leave this program, I hope they look back on their time feeling elated and proud of their accomplishments. If their appreciation for music spreads to their peers or future generations, then I have successfully done my job as a music educator.
