Ms. Alicia Valva
Hi!
I am proud to say that I myself am an alumna of the Cave Creek Unified School district and am extremely grateful to be teaching at the middle school that I once attended. I spent a year teaching English at a public high school in Barranquilla, Colombia and boy did that adventure teach me a lot about myself and the world around me. The biggest thing I learned through my experience teaching and living abroad is that once you experience yourself through different people, you realize that we are all the same. I cannot begin to describe how honored I am to be able to help young minds learn how to think. This is my sixth year teaching here at Sonoran Trails Middle School, and I am so happy to be teaching another group of 7th graders!

My Educational Philosophy
I believe that the purpose of education is to help young people become well-rounded individuals who are prepared to contribute positively to society. School is much more than academic learning -- it is also a place where we learn how to work collaboratively and cooperatively with others, how to understand and deal with our emotions in a positive way, and learn all of the tools necessary for a meaningful life. I believe that my job as an ELA teacher is not to teach students what to think, but rather teach them how to think and to view information through a variety of lens.
