Chinese as a World Language Program
Mandarin Chinese is offered to all K-6 students not participating in the Chinese Immersion Program. International guest and local teachers deliver language and culture classes to students for 20-40 minutes a week engaging them through music, movement, stories, culture and critical thinking using over 90% Mandarin during class. This program allows students to meet the following goals:
- Develop basic oral proficiency with a focus on real life speaking and listening
- Gain an appreciation of cultures different from their own
- Feel confident about learning a new World Language
ASU's Confucius Institute and Hanban (The Chinese National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language) have designated Horseshoe Trails Elementary School as an official Confucius Classroom School for its Mandarin Chinese Programs.
