    Mrs. Murillo

The Reading Success Program at Lone Mountain Elementary services students in Kindergarten through 6th Grade. Through the Reading Club classroom, students work to gain the skills they need to be successful readers and learners. Students are monitored weekly for progress, and work is adjusted to meet their needs. Reading Success strives for success in each learner and celebrates students exiting the program.

I am a learner at heart and I have a passion for teaching others. This is my fifth year in education, the first four in kindergarten and now as a reading specialist. I grew up in Maryland in the suburbs of Washington, DC, and have lived in Arizona for over 20 years. This will be my 11th year at Lone Mountain, first as a parent and eventually as a teacher. My husband and I have two boys...our oldest attends Cactus Shadows High School and our youngest attends Sonoran Trails Middle School.

    My Educational Philosophy

I believe that all students can learn and grow, especially in an environment that is safe, encouraging and stimulating. Children are unique and have their own special gifts, and it is important to work together with parents and other educators to meet the individual needs of all students.

As an educator, my purpose is to help students move forward by adding to their knowledge, and foster a love of learning. It is also important to encourage students to challenge themselves, celebrate and learn from failures, take opportunities to try new things, and reflect on and take ownership of their learning. Gaining knowledge and learning are continuous and life-long, and by facilitating their individual growth, my ultimate goal for my students is to find what they are passionate about and pursue their dreams so that they can become positive contributors in society.
