Mr. Eric DeVore
¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! My name is Eric DeVore. This is my eleventh year at Sonoran Trails. I have moved all over the eastern United States, but Detroit will always be my home. I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher and always have had a passion for different languages and cultures around the world. Even though home is very far away for me, the people at STMS have become like a second family to me, which makes STMS my home away from home: there's really no other place that I would rather teach at. I am excited to start the year off and explore the world through the Spanish language with my students.

Educational Philosophy
-
It is my belief that educators are to prepare their students for the world that they live in. Today more than ever, we live in a global society: we can communicate with the other side of the world within an instant. It is very important that we understand the people with whom we share the world, not only by respecting their differences and culture but also by learning about how they view the world via their language. Languages are powerful in the sense that they dictate the way that we think, feel and act; furthermore, they separate us from animals by providing us the ability to do higher order thinking. Middle School is a great time to tap into those higher order thinking skills, understand why others are different than one another and realize that we share one world with those people.
People prosper the most when they are passionate about something they do. It is important to me to help my students find their passion, learn to do it well, and use those skills to be a productive member of society in something that they are good at and enjoy doing. I am eager to see what my students are excited about and help them begin their journey as an active member of society with the hope that no matter what they do in their futures, they can do it in more than one language to expand their passions into our global society.
