Bus Rules

Transportation of students is a privilege extended to students in the District and is not a statutory requirement except for necessary transportation of students with disabilities as indicated in their respective Individual Education Programs.

Students have the privilege of riding District transportation as assigned.  The school bus is considered to be an extension of the students' classrooms.  The bus driver must manage student behavior on the bus; therefore, he or she has the same authority on the bus as the teacher in the classroom.  Inappropriate conduct at bus stops, on District vehicles, or in the process of boarding or exiting a vehicle may result in student disciplinary action including but not limited to denial of transportation privileges.

Students shall observe District policies, regulations, and rules while being transported.

A.  Before boarding the school bus, HS/MS students must have their ID card with them.

B.  Follow all instructions.

C.  Keep the aisles clear.

D.  Remain seated facing forward.

E.  Keep all body parts inside the vehicle.

F.  Talk quietly using respectful language and be courteous at all times.

G.  Do not throw anything inside the vehicle or from the vehicle.

H.  Do not eat or drink (water bottles are acceptable).

I.  State law prohibits the transportation of animals (with the exception of service animals), insects, weapons, glass containers, dangerous instruments, alcohol, and drugs on a school bus.

J.  Helium balloons, sports equipment, skateboards, roller blades, or scooters are allowed on the bus and must be secured throughout the trip.

K. Maintain orderly conduct at designated bus stops.

Students who behave inappropriately and do not follow bus rules are subject to discipline up to and including suspension from all bus riding privileges. If a student is riding a route with an exception, that exception will be removed immediately.
