1:1 Chromebook Initiative
What is a 1:1 device initiative?
One to One (often abbreviated as 1:1) technology describes an educational situation in which every student has their own mobile computing device (tablet, laptop, computer, netbook, Chromebook, etc.) to use for learning.
Why is it important for students?
One-to-one technology's objective is to provide educational solutions to the new and widespread role of tech in the lives of students and teachers.
Students already interact so much with mobile devices and the internet, especially at home, and teachers can only make effective use of new educational technologies and digital learning resources by integrating education with students’ use of tech.
Adopting a 1:1 technology approach makes the process of teaching digital skills and technological literacy far simpler.

My child was issued a district-owned Chromebook, what can I do to support the effective use of this device?
A great way to reinforce proper use and care of the device would be to follow the guidelines in the handbook found in the documents tab. You can also have peace of mind knowing that the same policies placed on devices on the district's network apply to your child's device at home. If your child should encounter content that causes concern or seems questionable, we urge you to reach out to our Educational Technology Department at StudentHelp@ccusd93.net - we are partners in this endeavor!

Is there a concern about students experiencing "too much technology", eye fatigue, headaches, etc?
Is there a device protection plan? If so, how much does it cost?
Yes, there is a device protection plan. It costs $30 and more detailed information can be found here.
Will my student use the same device until graduation?
Students will be issued a device each school year, and at the conclusion of the year, the device will be collected back for cleaning, routine maintenance, and any necessary repairs. The devices will be certified for redistribution and issued to students in the next school year. This means that students are not guaranteed to receive the same device issued back to them.
Can students opt out of using the district-issued device and use their own?
What happens if the device is lost or stolen?
Will my student be required to bring the device to school every day?
Do the safety filters no longer apply if a student logs on with a different email?
If the issued device needs repairs, will they be issued a loaner?
Will students be issued a carrying case and charging cord?
Each student will be issued a charging/power cord (this will be checked out under their name and will need to be returned with the device). It is recommended that students use a backpack with a laptop sleeve to protect their chromebook, however a protective case may be available to students on a case-by-case basis.
Will new Chromebooks be bought for elementary schools?
After school hours, how can students/parents reach out for tech support? Is there a chatbot feature?
We currently do not have a chatbot or after-hours support feature, but it is something we will consider and troubleshoot. However, students can contact support through the email address dedicated to this initiative, StudentHelp@ccusd93.net. As we continue to grow the initiative, should something more responsive become available, we will communicate that option.
Will there be enough Wifi bandwidth to support so many devices simultaneously?
We have recently completed improvements to the wireless access points at both Cactus Shadows High School and Sonoran Trails Middle School to alleviate any congestion that students would usually experience on the network. These improvements should effectively support the influx of devices accessing the network simultaneously.
How are you protecting our students?
We work to protect our students through a variety of tools. Our firewall, Fortigate, has restrictions implemented to ensure compliance with all State and Federal mandates, as well as any other concerns that may present themselves. Additionally, we leverage a system, Gaggle, that monitors students' Google Workspaces and alerts District Administration to a number of potential concerns, including but not limited to, self-harm, violence against others, sexual content, harassment, weapons, drugs, etc. We also have provided teachers with a tool that allows them to facilitate their virtual classroom space via a number of controls in a platform called GoGuardian.
How can students improve their keyboarding skills?
