Facilities Focus Group

The Facility Focus Group was established in April of 2024 and met over an 8 month period to review current data related to school enrollment, projected enrollment, building capacity, and forecasted financial implications. After careful review of all factors, it was determined that there was a need to close two schools as a result of declining enrollment. The Focus Group that looked at a number of additional factors including school location, open enrollment, School Facilities Division (SFD) coverage, and specialized programs to narrow down the recommendations.

The Governing Board will be voting on school closures and boundaries at their February 11th, 2025 Business Meeting. Based on the outcomes of their decisions, families will receive notification on Friday, February 14th, 2025.

Yes, all students who reside within the school’s  transportation zone will be provided bussing to and from school.

Yes, parents will be provided priority open enrollment to any of the elementary schools in Cave Creek Unified School District. The open enrollment window is from January 31, 2025 - March 7, 2025.

If you are open enrolling at a school that is not your assigned school, transportation will not be provided.

The deadline to apply for priority open enrollment to guarantee a spot at your selected school will be March 7, 2025.

In February, all families will receive an Intent to Return form. This form helps us determine whether students plan to return to CCUSD for the upcoming academic year. The information gathered will assist the district in anticipating enrollment numbers, allocating resources, and planning class sizes and staffing needs more effectively.

Current CCUSD Board Policy ensures class sizes are maintained at a reasonable ratio at each grade level. Although each school will see an increase in enrollment through consolidation, each grade level will not exceed class size ratios established by Governing Board Policy

Yes, all school sites will be hosting events for parents and students to visit and meet the staff. This will include scheduled open houses and after school events. In addition, we are planning to have a visit for students in April during the school day.

Yes, STMS will be hosting a Future Stinger Day for incoming 6th graders (date to be determined).

The School Facility Division (SFD), under the Arizona Department of Administration provides a Building Renewal Grant for the purpose of maintaining the adequacy of existing school facilities. This grant funds primary building renewal projects including major renovations and repairs of a building, upgrades to building systems that will maintain or extend the useful life of a building, and for infrastructure costs. Each site is covered at a percentage based on how the school was originally funded to be built. Currently, each elementary site is covered at the following percentages:
