Ms. Leveta Fisher

Hello!  I have been a Special Educator since 2006. My teacher education background includes a BA in Education, Visual Arts K-12 Major and Psychology Minor, Secondary from Olivet College in Michigan (which is a small, private teacher’s college).  From there, I literally fell into a position as an Integrated Preschool Teacher with a high ASD population. I became fascinated with the puzzle that is Autism and have committed to serving students with learning and behavioral disorders as well as their families, for the balance of my teaching career.  I received ECSE credits from Rio Salado College here in Tempe and then a MS in Special Education with a Specialization in Learning Disabilities from Capella University in Minnesota.

Prior to becoming a teacher in 2002, I worked as an office manager and accountant for interior and digital design businesses.  Wanting to give back to my community and support the reading programs I am so passionate about, I did three years of National Service with both AmeriCorps and VISTA. The opportunities presented me during that time to work with young people, community leaders and stakeholders changed my life.  I remain a lifelong learner and volunteer.

I am excited to return to Arizona, previously having lived and taught in both Sedona and Flagstaff. I will be forever grateful for having grown up on a self sufficient dairy farm in Western Michigan, where I was raised with a hard work ethic. Winter and summer, I was always outdoors!  My permanent home is Michigan where my two daughters and three grandchildren live. Both of my daughters are college graduates with careers in science and technology and veterinary medicine.  They did not get their science inclination from me!  I have always leaned toward art and literacy. After living on the water most of my life,  I journeyed to the high desert in 2005 and became mesmerized by the beauty here. In my free time, I enjoy art and design, visiting my family, gourmet cooking, hiking and taking the road less traveled.
