School Spelling Bees

  • First Steps

    1. Sites will register to participate in the Scripps Spelling Bee program.

    2. Spelling Bee Coordinators will receive Scripps online sign-in information from the administrative team.

    3. Coordinators set the deadline for teachers (fourth through eighth grade) to hold Classroom Spelling Bees along with the date of the School Spelling Bee.

    4. Coordinators distribute copies of the Classroom Pronouncer Guide to teachers - teachers should review the rules before conducting the Classroom Spelling Bee.

    5. ELA/Classroom Teachers conduct Classroom Spelling Bees (see page 4 for what point in the Classroom Pronouncer Guide to begin Classroom Spelling Bee-starting points vary by grade level).

    6. Teachers report the winner and runner-up to the Spelling Bee Coordinator.

    7. Spelling Bee Coordinators must set up the area for the School Spelling Bee, invite parents, recruit at least two judges (and a pronouncer), and provide School Pronouncer Guides to the judges and pronouncer.

    8. Grade-level Spelling Bees will be conducted, with the winner and runner-up from each grade level going on to participate in the CCUSD District Spelling Bee.
