    Gifted Testing

    • Spring Gifted testing scheduled for May 9th has been cancelled. The next scheduled testing date is tentatively scheduled for August 2020. We will have more details as the school closures are lifted and we know when we can return to our buildings! Stay tuned!

CCUSD, in compliance with state requirements, conducts gifted referral testing three times per year using the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).  The test is not an achievement test, but a measure of reasoning  ability in specific aptitude areas.

This test measures learned reasoning and problem-solving skills in three different areas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal.  The verbal section has three subtests, which focus on reasoning skills, flexibility and fluency.  The quantitative section tests the child's understanding of basic quantitative concepts and relationships that are essential for learning mathematics.  The nonverbal section helps to see how students look for shapes and patterns.

Results from the tests will provide teachers with information to inform and differentiate instruction. 3rd-8th grade students who score at or above the 97th percentile in any one or more of the three areas will also be eligible for the Creative Inquiry class.
