Mrs. Harrison

Welcome to my Second Grade class.  I hope you will find Room 108 an exciting and fun place to learn!  My name is Leighanne Harrison and I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.

My philosophy of teaching is that learning should be fun!  I understand that each child is an individual and learns in his or her own way.  I strive to create a safe, comfortable extension of home for each student in my classroom.  I hope to hear students say they can't wait to come to school every day to see what is in store for them!  I cultivate each child, much like a gardener tends to his garden.  I allow each student the time they need to blossom into the "flower" they can become.

I attended Seton Hall University and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a second major in Fine Arts.  I also hold endorsements in Early Childhood Education and Gifted Education.  I worked in a private school from 1991 - 1996 teaching Pre-Kindergarten.  In August of 1996, I relocated to the Phoenix Area with my husband.  Upon arrival in Arizona, I took a position at Blessed Sacrament Pre-School teaching 3 and 4 year olds.  I enjoyed this position and loved getting to know my new home.  In 1997, I took a position at Kachina Country Day School teaching a multi-age first/second grade.  I enjoyed my time in Kachina but wished to be in the public schools, working closer to home and reaching children and families in my own community. I took a position at Desert Sun Elementary School in 2000. I taught 2 years in second grade and 1 year in first grade there. My experience at Desert Sun was wonderful, but in 2003, I made the difficult decision to stop working and stay at home with my children. I have 2 children, Sam and Lucas. Sam is 21 years old and is in the United States Army.  Lucas is 18 years old and excited about starting his freshman year at Belmont University in Nashville in August! I am excited to see what the future holds for my children as well as yours!

I am fortunate to work here and am privileged to work with each of your children. I look forward to getting a chance to meet you and your children with a positive attitude and excitement. We will make this school year an amazing one!
