Mrs. Megan Linch

Hello! My name is Mrs. Megan Linch and I am so excited to be part of the Desert Sun Academy 5th grade team. Most importantly I am thrilled to be your teacher. It is going to be a fun year full of lots of learning and new adventures. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for us. I want to know all about you, but first I’m going to tell you a few things about me.

I was born in Portland Oregon, and I lived there till I was 12. I loved all the big tall pine trees, art, dance and playing with my friends! My mother was an art teacher, and even when I wasn’t in classes, I was in school. I often helped in her classroom and taught with her during the summer. It was during these formative years that I discovered I wanted to be a teacher.  In 6th grade, my family moved to Arizona to follow my dad’s job. I started middle school in the Cave Creek school district and then I graduated from Cactus Shadows High School. From there I started my formal education in teaching at Paradise Valley Community College and Northern Arizona University. In 2011 I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelors of Science in Education. I also have a minor in humanities and cultural studies. I graduated with honors and as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

After graduating I started teaching at Desert Sun Academy in fifth grade. I taught fifth grade for 4 years before joining the fourth-grade team and this year I am moving back up to 5th grade. I enjoyed teaching fourth grade and I value my prior knowledge of fifth-grade curriculum, as it helps me ensure that my fifth graders are prepared for the year ahead. This is my 8th year teaching at Desert Sun.  I am involved all over the DSA campus, and I am co-sponsor of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) with Mrs. Timms. Furthermore, I have been teaching dance, art, math, technology and other various topics for over 10 years. These well-rounded experiences in teaching have helped me learn to teach the whole child, not just the academic brain.

I am so excited to be your teacher, and I am even more excited that you are in my class. We are going to have a great fifth-grade year here in room 511.
