Welcome to Mr. Smith's Bio page.  I have been a teacher for the last 27 years! I learn everyday how to better help my students achieve at their highest level.

Over the years, I have come to love teaching more and more. My goal for this year is that your child make the greatest possible gains socially, emotionally and academically. Grade 6 is a big one for asking students to self evaluate and define goals for their own learning. They will be asked do demonstrate their newfound independece at every turn.

I have a Master's Degree in in Elementary education  and have always taught the middle grades of 4th through 6th. I also have a teaching license for secondary education although I have never (yet) wanted to work with the older students. I have been teaching full-time in Arizona since 1990. My first position was with a private school where I taught social studies and reading for 10 years. From there, I moved on to the public schools and taught 6th grade for 5 years. Currently, I have been at Black Mountain for the last 12 years and could not be happier with our kids, parents and the beautiful surroundings.

Because I am so very young, I plan to teach for many, many, more years!
