What is The B.R.E.A.T.H.E. Project?
When the school closed in March 2020, I feared that my "relaxing, fun, comfortable" environment was ruined. I pride myself on my philosophy that if I'm helping to ease my students' stress I am, in turn, easing my stress. I came up with The B.R.E.A.T.H.E. Projects as a way to help students take some time every week, maybe even every day, to "JUST BREATHE" and remember that Ms. Gebel is always here (even if they don't see me, talk to me, or spend an hour with me daily). The project was fantastic! I saw so many students relaxing, having fun, laughing, sharing pictures, sharing videos, and I was learning even more about them based on what they chose to share and what activities they took the time to do. I truly believe the project helped us get through those chaotic, uncertain, and stressful two months.
So...that left one very important question...how do I continue that project and make it a constant part of my class? When we returned to school in September 2020, I had The B.R.E.A.T.H.E. Project as weekly extra credit. Though only a handful did the weekly activity--according to the grade book--I know that many kept this philosophy in mind as they made it through their "pandemic school year".
Now, The B.R.E.A.T.H.E. Project is a part of my Teaching Philosophy and Curriculum.
