Ms. Jean Robertson
Hello! Welcome back! Looking forward to my 4th year at Cactus Shadows High School in the Life Skills program for the 2023-24 school year! Arizona has been home now for 22 years. Prior to Arizona, I was in Colorado for 3 years in Castle Rock (south of Denver), after living 10 years in Los Angeles county (living in Marina del Rey and Redondo Beach). I was born and raised in Brawley, a small town in the Imperial Valley, a small agricultural area in Southern California you blink and miss on your way to San Deigo or Palm Springs. I loved my college years at Colorado State University and attended Grand Canyon University for my Masters in Special Education when I moved to Arizona. I am blessed with four boys that I raised as a single Mom; the oldest graduated from ASU, married and recruiting for Salad n'Go. My second son, a Cal Poly SLO graduate, is an Engineer at Oakley in Orange County, my third son is studying Business Marketing at Colorado State University and the fourth will be working towards his wildland fire training and on Prescott Crew 2.
Teaching students with varied abilities is a joy; every day brings challenges but many blessings. 2006 was the start of my teaching career, serving students in a High School Life Skills program for 3 years with profound and severe needs, then moving to PUSD's 18-22 Transition program for 9 years. I enjoyed working with young adults, as they developed in the areas of daily living and workplace skills as we worked on campus, in schools and in the community. I continue to support a few students in respite needs and support their job ambitions. Currently passionate about our Life Skills students, supporting their needs in communication using assistive augmentative communication devices so "their voices" can be heard, opening up their worlds around them to participate and strive to find their skills as they grow into young adults.
Looking forward to a great year and seeing smiling faces.
Jean Robertson
