Dr. Alex Bender

I am Alex Bender and I am a new biology/chemistry teacher at the Cactus Shadows High School. I believe that my very extensive educational, research and teaching experience in biological sciences are ideally suited for this teaching position.

I have completed my M.Ed. degree in the College of Education at the UNLV, and also became a member of the Honor Phi Kappa Phi Society. This program provided me with extensive knowledge in developing innovative teaching techniques, especially inquiry and active learning.  I hold a Hon. B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree in Physiology and a Ph.D. degree in Pharmacology from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. My neuroscience research has been published in numerous academic journals and book chapters, as well as presented at many international and domestic scientific meetings. I taught pharmacology for two academic years at the Nova Southeastern University and Arizona Eastern College. Trading commodities and Forex taught me how to be very self-disciplined and well-organized, which are very useful qualities in teaching. I had the privilege of teaching biology at the Trinity International Schools, San Luis High School, San Manuel High School, San Carlos High School and Kingman High School.

My passion for science and for student success is evident based on my life-long experiences and my teaching philosophy, which is based on commitment, enthusiasm, respect, and scholarship.I know that Cactus Shadows High School sets high standards for students and teachers. I look forward to meeting these challenges.  I am confident that my love of science and education, compassion for students, accompanied by my professional experience would make teaching and learning a success for me and students. I am very appreciative and privileged to teach at Cactus Shadows High School.
