Katie Magnussen

I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and grew up in Paradise Valley, Arizona. I attended Grand Canyon University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Fitness and Wellness. I was a personal trainer for over 10 years and had such an amazing group of clientele that became like family to me. As much as I loved personal training, I felt a calling somewhere else. I have always had a passion for helping and working with people and in 2020, I enrolled in Grand Canyon University's Masters of Special Education Degree. My family loves to travel and spend as much time out kayaking, paddleboarding, and camping as we can. (Our 1-year labrador sure does love it)

My Educational Philosophy

In reflecting upon finishing my first year as a teacher, each student is so special and unique and brings something special to the classroom. It meant so much to me when my students told me how safe they felt in my classroom and how comfortable they felt asking me questions. It is so important to know who our students are and how they learn best because that will give them the confidence needed to succeed in the classroom and outside of school. I like to use a lot of positive feedback in my classroom and make everyone feel a part of our learning environment. Honesty and respect go a long way with me so it is important that students be respectful and are always honest in all they do.
