Welcome to 4th Grade at Horseshoe Trails Elementary School! It is so exciting to be part of such an incredible elementary school! The beginnning of the school year always brings butterflies of anticipation! I am so excited to meet all of you. I had such a relaxing summer that I am ready to go! I spent the entire summer in Breezy Point, Minnesota and Durand, Wisconsin this year! My new husband, Mr. McChesney and I have a cottage on a golf course and just enjoy every minute! Life is good!
I am a HUGE fan of technology and all it brings to enhance out classroom learning! I successfully used a site called Edmodo last year, and will set it up again this year. It is like a safe Facebook for the classroom. Kids see my posts and assignments. Kids can post their own comments, links, pictures, etc. for all of us to see, but they can't message individuals or anyone I haven't given permission to be in our 'class', which keeps its safe! This will be the easiest and quickest place for your child to access online assignments and Go Math Flipped Lessons.
I am also trying something new this year in Math! I will be creating short, sweet, and to the point math lessons and posting them online. They can be used for remediation, enrichment, or to help you help your child! Please check out the Go Math Flipped Lessons link!
I am originally from Wisconsin and still visit family there every summer. Of course it goes without saying that I'm also a Packer fan! I have two sons. Jake, a Speech Pathologist, and his wife, Kelly, live in Flagstaff, are both graduates of NAU, and are expecting their first child in September. Ted graduated from U of A with a business degree and works at Vanguard. He and his wife Christina live here in Phoenix. They all incredible people who I am very proud of!
I recieved a degree in Elementary Education from Luther College in Decorah Iowa. I received my Masters from Ottawa University here in Phoenix in 1995. I have taught in the Cave Creek School District for 24 years; teaching 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades at Desert Sun Elementary since its very beginning, and now entering my 7th year at Horseshoe Trails! I have completed many summer workshops through out the years, as I'm always looking for new ideas!
In my spare time I enjoy hiking (the view of Black Mountain from our classroom door seems to beckon my name to come and hike every day!), water sports, golfing, and camping. My all time favorite winter activity is downhill skiing and I go every chance I get!
This is going to be a tremendous year of discovery and learning for all of us and I am so happy to have begun our journey! If you're new to 4th Grade, please take some time and peruse all of the links on the left to see what fun learning we have in front of us! This is my complete family taken last summer at my Mom's 90th birthday celebration!
