  Technology In Your Future

At Black Mountain Elementary School , computers are fun!  We integrate math, reading, science, geography, and history into many different software programs that make it fun for the students to learn.

Grades K-2 work with programs like The Learning Company's Word Munchers and Interactive Reading Journey. They're learning their letters, sounds, spelling and reading.

Grades 3-5 use the Mavis Beacon Typing Program, which helps the students learn how to type. As they're learning how to type, they're learning spelling, grammar, sentence structure and a variety of other skills. They learn how to type faster without looking at the keyboard.  This is a very important skill because of the great projects they work on here at the elementary level and when they enter the middle and high school level. Their work will be more productive and efficient. The software programs they use for different projects are Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Publisher, Inspiration, and Storybook Weaver. These projects range from typing a simple story about animals to an elaborate presentation about space.

Learning how to explore the internet is also a skill the students learn. They learn how to research using the internet as well as using web-based programs which support students in a variety of subjects.

Technology is part of our curriculum and an important part of our student's education. Computer class at the elementary level provides students the foundation to acquire technology skills, discover new ways to use those skills to perform tasks and use critical thinking skills, integrated with technology to solve problems and arrive at solutions.

OUR STUDENTS AT BMES LOVE COMPUTER CLASS!
