SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY MESSAGE
Dr. Debbi C. Burdick
As the 2008-09 school year ends, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for helping us to have another successful year in CCUSD. Some of our focus areas have been:
Student Excellence - We have all eight Excelling schools, three A+ schools, approximately $5 million in scholarships and we are anticipating Cactus Shadows High School being reinstated in Newsweek Magazine's Top 100 High Schools in the Nation this June.
Relationships - We continue to foster collaborative partnerships with the board, staff, and community and with our schools through communication activities, Listening Sessions, Budget Forums, school visits and media partnerships.
Community involvement - We had many effective working committees on Financial Feasibility, Calendar, Community Engagement, Elementary and Middle School Planning, Superintendent's Advisory Committee, Superintendent's Student Advisory Committee, Faith Advisory Committee and the Utilities Conservation Committee. The input received from these groups helped us to make informed decisions to benefit students.
Fiscal Responsibility -- We continue to grapple with this as we anticipate the budget information from the State Legislature, which will enable us to formulate our final 2009-10 budget. Due to the dire economic situation in our state, the budget in CCUSD, like other districts across the state, will contain reductions based on the final decisions from our Governing Board once the state budget is signed into law.
I could not be prouder of the work we do on behalf of our CCUSD students, staff, families and community daily. You all help to Inspire Excellence and turn our goals into reality. Have a safe and restful summer. Congratulations to the class of 2009, we wish them well as they take their next steps. We look forward to seeing you back on August 6th. Please check our website at

throughout the summer for timely updates.
