Parent Informational Meeting for Incoming Kinder Students

Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion Program
In Kindergarten, our "Touch of Immersion" means that students receive their math in Chinese and start their Chinese language classes (approximately 65 minutes daily).
In first grade, we begin a partial immersion model. This means that 50% of daily instruction is conducted in Mandarin and the other 50% is in English. Thematic Units spiral throughout the academic content areas so that Math, Science, Social Studies and Language Arts (reading, writing, spreaking, listening) are taught in both languages. An additional grade will be added every year.
欢迎 ! Welcome!
Kinder seats for the 2016-17 school year are available on a first come first serve basis. Please contact the front office to reserve your child's seat at 480-272-8500.

Want to Learn More?
What is it? Students in kinder will receive the regular kinder curriculum with their daily math instruction being taught through the language of Mandarin Chinese. There will also be a reveiw/reinforcement time for math in English. Math is a hands-on topic in kindergarten which makes it a perfect venue for students to learn content and language together in a natural way.
Why? It is proven that students beneift from learning through two languages at school. It gives students more cognitive flexibility, expands attention spans and problem solving skills which translate into higher academic achievement. This type of programming allows students to reach the highest level of proficiency in another language than any other language model. In today's global economy, young professionals that are proficient in English and Mandarin Chinese are in high demand.
Who? Any student entering HTES's kindergarten class for the 2014-15 school year can sign up for this exciting opportunity. Please stop by or call the front office to add your child to the list.
