Welcome to the World Chinese Program at

Horseshoe Trails Elementary School

HTES has a two-track Chinese language program. One track is a language immersion program in Kindergarten through 2nd grade (2016-17) and the rest of the school receives World Chinese following this model below...

Kindergarten through 6th grade students receive 2 20-minute classes per week.

In World Chinese classes, we use a hands-on approach to teaching language and culture...

Mrs. Light , or "Light Lao shi" (teacher salutation), is the Mandarin teacher for kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students.  Mrs. Light was born and raised in Taiwan where she spoke Mandarin and Taiwanese as her first languages.  She also learned Japanese while attending university in Tokyo.  Mrs. Light has taught Mandarin for fifteen years.  She is very excited to share her multicultural experiences as a teacher in our Mandarin program.  She is a CCUSD parent.
